Description

Sour, sweet, a little sticky — this one ingredient can turn a plain dish into something you keep going back for.

What It Is

Our Naturally Tangy Tamarind (Imli) comes in soft, sticky pulp form, pulled straight from the tamarind pod. It’s the tangy base behind chutneys, chaat, and so many street food favourites across Pakistan.

Taste, Smell & Colour

The taste is sour with a hint of sweetness at the back, strong enough to wake up your tongue but never bitter. It has a light fruity smell, and the colour is a deep brown, almost like thick dark honey.

Texture

Soft, sticky, and slightly fibrous. It softens even more when soaked in warm water, making it easy to mash and mix into whatever you’re cooking.

Used In

  • Imli chutney for samosas and pakoras
  • Chaat and fruit chaat
  • Sambar and South Indian style daal
  • Tamarind rice

Other Uses

  • Mix into BBQ glazes for a tangy-sweet finish
  • Add to stir fries for that sweet-sour balance
  • Use in salad dressings instead of plain lemon
  • Stir into lentil soups for extra depth

Why Buy This One

Bazaar tamarind is often mixed with seeds, fibre, or dried out chunks that are hard to work with. This one is cleaned properly, so you get soft, usable pulp without wasting half of it picking out seeds.

We pack it in craft paper, not plastic. That keeps the tamarind’s natural tang and moisture intact, without any plastic smell mixing in over time.

How To Store

Keep it in a sealed container in the fridge once opened. Stored properly, it stays soft and usable for a long time, so you’re not stuck with a dried out, hard block after a few weeks.

If your chutney has ever tasted flat or one-note, it’s usually the tamarind. Good quality imli is what gives chaat that sharp, tangy punch everyone remembers.
